The Art of Procrastinating

We all have things we need to do. Sure, they vary in importance and scope, but things are things and a need to do is certainly a need to do. So why is it that I’m writing an article instead of doing what I need to do? Simple. I don’t want to do it. It's a very complex complex to approach because it involves lying to yourself, which, you reason, is impossible. Not so.

Procrastinating is a much more subtle than a simple lie. It requires reasoning with yourself, skewing logic and bending truths. Convincing yourself that your time would be better spent elsewhere, like watching infomercials or driving around the block, or walking around Vallco for a half an hour never once stepping into a single store.

Procrastinating has its drawbacks, however, soon the thing (we could just refer to it as a physiology report) weighs so heavily on you that the majority of your time is spent thinking about not doing it. Avoiding work. Now it’s no longer a matter of other things being more enjoyable, it’s gone beyond that. It’s a battle of wits. It’s a matter of principle. And one which, by writing this very article, I am winning. Take that physiology.
